And interesting implementation of master MIDI keyboard, a studio composer's helper, is represented by C-Thru Music. They call it AXiS-64.

AXiS-64

An AXiS MIDI controller was first shown in public on Winter NAMM'07 in Anaheim. It is  so-called "world's first harmonic table controller". What's different from regular MIDI keyboard is in keys placement - we agree with Sonicstate here - it reminds us a periodic table or lotto.

Not so difficult as it seems. The Harmonic table which is the base for AXiS keyboard named Natural Keyboard, is biult in such way that all the adjacent keys have the same tone intervals (see fig.). The black and white keys idea is taken from the piano. Also for better orientation we have D and G# in different colors.

For instance, to buit the major or minor triad you have just to press any three adjacent keys (from the video it's easy to see  you can do it even with one finger). Тhus moving along any axis we get a sequence of equal intervals.

The octaves on AXiS look such way.

The advantages for non-piano people are evident. Scales and chords are all the same in any key. The simplicity of harmonization, taking any complex chord is also there. If you do not forget fove octaves in one hand...  this type of keyboard  needs more keys though - 192 for 64 real notes.

The technical specs give a 2x24 display, control keys, Pitch Wheel and modulation wheels, two rotation controllers and two pedals. The keyboard is velocity sensitive. As for the price, not low at the moment, around  £750 in UK.
