Tired of lugging around SCSI HDDs and optical drives? Well, we have other way to load and store prorgams and samples on your Kurzweil K2000 keyboard.

So is this HDD replacement? I guess it's more to the floppy in the keyboard version of K2000. To answer some unasked questions - no, not every card reader is suitable. You cannot pull out the floppy and place the card reader instead (though some companies provide such posibility - see http://www.2av.com.ua/hardr.htm).

But still humanity has the marvellous SCSI used in lots of professional sound devices. So we'll use it for our first upgrade. Here we go. The guinea-pig for today's experiment is my own Kurzweil K2000 keyboard, OS 3.54J.

The main task is to find a suitable card reader with SCSI interface. You can still find some on eBay, I use Microtech PCD-47B (see PDF manual here, device costs somewhere between $20 and $50).

The main features of this particular model is Compact Flash support without an adaptor, the 3.5 inch housing (prefect floppy replacement) and an interface type is 50-pin SCSI that fits Kurzweil K2000. So we're alright at the moment ;)

1. The dream of Microtech PCD-47B came true

To plug the devices pinned the other way (68 pins for instance) you'll have to use special adaptors, avaliable on various Internet shops. BTW, the internal card reader is the best for saving the space in the rig (no extra devices and cables) and having the external SCSI port free for other purposes.

2. Pay attention to SCSI connectors

Besides the Microtech PCD-47B there are other models of SCSI readers avaliable on eBay - internal or external. theoretically you can use any of them with the K2000 not just the glorious "Triple Card Reader ". Don't be afraid of PCMCIA models. A cheap adaptor will give you a Compact Flash support here.

OK, so we place reader instead of floppy - you see the one inside k2000, on the left. The сompartment inside kurz resembles th PC one, just angled. Nothing to worry about, even easier to access than on the computer.

3. A floppy drive in the Kurzweil K2000 coordinates

The floppy is connected the standard way - cable goes to the Engine Board of k2000, this is the board where OS ICs. RAM and extensions live.
