An interesting expandable MIDI controller AREA 61 by TerraTec is shown at the Musikmesse.
Honestly speaking, TerraTec Producer AREA 61 was first mentioned at Harmony Central like year ago. The point is, the keyboard is about to see light this spring. The instrument is 5-octave, semi-weighted, with 4 assignable split zones and two aftertouch zones - more value for the performer. Also worth mentioning are in-built audio interface. The controller purposes are served by 10 knobs, no sliders here. Now to the expansion abilities. First, it's the hardware synth based on TerraTec's own KOMPLEXER DSP, a lot like Waldorf MicroQ, they promise to keep everything, including parameter adjustment, in the upcoming module. Next - 128-voice GM module WAVE XTABLE with 500 patches, and the MIDITEMP card called DoX1, which has HI-Synthesis engine from Korg inside, 62-voice polyphony and 660 sounds from Korg Triton series, 30 drum kits, two effects processors and the GM/GM2 compatibility.
